Lawyer Ángela Díaz-Bastien has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Institute for the Rule of Law of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA). This appointment was made this weekend in Valencia, where the UIA was holding its 59th Annual Congress. The IROL-UIA was created at the beginning of September in Dublin, aiming to strengthen and coordinate all the UIA’s activities for the defense of Human Rights, the Rule of Law, and the free exercise of the profession. Its General Director is Pascual Maurer, and the Directors include Carlos Fatás Mosquera, Jacqueline Scott, Martin Pradel, William Hannay, Urquiola de Palacio, and Maxime Delhomme, assisted by deputy directors Ángela Díaz-Bastien, along with Avi Singh, Elvire Vignon, Michel Huet, Patricia López Aufranc, Myrsini Felios, and François Moyse. The general secretary of the IROL-UIA is Mary-Daphné Fishelson.
